FROOTS Guide

FROOTS is an online trading card game dedicated to Asian entertainment. Online trading card games are similar to real life ones like Pokémon. In an online TCG, you play games to earn cards. And like in real life, you can trade your cards with other people who collect them. The goal is to collect all of the cards in a certain set of cards (called a deck) in order to master that deck. At FROOTS, you can also participate in events and contests, make friends on the forums, and level up to become the very best!

Earning Cards

There are many ways to earn cards at FROOTS, the two most fun being games and forum participation! Below is a list of various way you can earn cards here.
  • Games: earn cards by playing games in our activities area
  • Forum activities: the forums have their own games and you can earn cards by ranking up
  • Freebies: there are weekly freebies plus various freebies from new deck releases
  • Leveling up: you're rewarded for collecting a certain number of cards and leveling up
  • Deck mastery: when you collect all of the cards in a deck, you earn a reward for your mastery
  • Donating: not money! Donate level badges, buttons, and even new decks to FROOTS for rewards
  • Events: every now and then, an event will be hosted! All members can participate and, of course, earn cards for participating

Trading Cards

Trading is one of the most important aspects of trading card games, and it's the best way to get the cards you really need. You can't get all the cards you're collecting just by playing games! Check out the member list to visit trade posts and start trading. You can also find trades in the wish lists forum. When trading, keep in mind:
  • You must take down a card when you trade it away
  • Try to allow a trade one week to process before canceling it or trading the card(s) with someone else
  • Never offer someone a card that is in a pending trade!
  • Don't ask for cards that are in someone's "keeping" or "collecting" section
  • Avoid asking traders to look at your trade post for a card as much as possible
  • Always log every trade you make!

Card Types

There are two card types at FROOTS: normal and special. Normal cards are the easiest to come by, as they are earned from almost all games and activities here. Normal cards include PS (photoshoot) and MV (music video) cards. Special cards are a bit harder to come by! They can only be earned from one game. Special cards include member cards. The cards below are for example only—please do not take them!
  • Normal Cards
    • PS cards have a blue heart and are worth 1
    • MV cards have a pink heart and are worth 1
  • Special Cards
    • Member cards have a purple heart and are worth 2
  • 1 normal card can be traded for 1 normal card
  • 2 normal cards can be traded for 1 member card

Member Decks

FROOTS has a unique feature: member decks. Most TCGs give members one member card, but at FROOTS, each member can get a full deck of 10 cards featuring images chosen by the member and the member's name on the deck. These decks are masterable and the cards can be earned only by playing a game. Up to three member decks are released each week. To get a member deck, you must put your name on the waiting list, send in your images, and wait patiently for your turn to come!
  • We need 11 images for your member deck and they must be high quality
  • Each image must be related to Asian entertainment!
  • A person can only be featured once in your member deck, unless in a group shot with 3 or more people or in your deck's master badge

Deck Mastery

When you have collected every card in a deck, you've mastered that deck. Mastering a deck earns you a reward and a master badge that you can display on your trade post. To claim a mastery, head over to the mastery form.
  • When you master a deck, the cards can no longer be traded away. They are now yours forever!
  • Mastering a normal deck earns you 1 choice card + 3 random cards

Levels

Your level at FROOTS is based on the amount of cards you have. When you level up, you must fill out a level up form to increase your level and earn your reward.
  • Apricot: 0-99 card worth
  • Blackberry: 100-249 card worth
  • Pomegranate: 250-399 card worth
  • Coconut: 400-649 card worth
  • Papaya: 650-799 card worth
  • Pear: 800-999 card worth
  • Raspberry: 1000+ card worth

Currency

FROOTS hearts are the currency of FROOTS. They can be exchanged for cards at the hearts exchange in the forums. Hearts are mainly earned by playing games. All hearts can be earned through games, but some are much rarer than others! For example, there is a 95% chance that any heart earned through playing a game will be a red or blue heart, while the chance of getting a green heart is only 4%. And you'll need lots of luck to get a rare purple heart: the chance of one of those appearing is only 1%! The hearts below are for example only—please do not take them!

Heart Exchange Rates

  • 4 red hearts earn you 1 random card or 1 green heart
  • 4 blue hearts earn you 1 random card or 1 green heart
  • 1 green heart earns you 1 random card
  • 1 purple heart earns you 1 choice card

Trade Logs

A trade/activity log is required. Your log is used to keep track of cards which cards you earn and what you earn them from. You must log every single card, heart, and whatever else you get, whether it be from a game or a trade with another member. Here is an example trade log, but feel free to style yours differently:

June 1, 2010

Master Cards

For fun! If there's a card you really like and are up for collecting a bunch of copies of, this is for you. When you collect five copies of any card, you can master that card. When you master a card, you earn a master card, which looks like a master badge, and 1 choice card (of any card type)! You can display your master cards/mastered cards with your master badges/mastered decks. If you have mastered a card, go to the master card claims thread. Here are some example master cards:
